“We teach illiterate rural women to read and write in 4 weeks” Tara Akshar
CENTRES
TRAIN-THE-TRAINER

We have now made over 44,000 women literate through the TARA Akshar program. Every month, another 4,000 are added.

Since its rollout in early 2007, 44,000 of our students have passed their written comprehension test and are now certified as being able to read and write

We now have 291 centres across Northern India, where people who have never been to school, and have never learned to read, can learn to read and write in 30 days. Currently, our focus is on teaching women whose ages range from 8 to 50.

Help please!

We are very pleased with what we have done, but in the last 6 months we have had to turn away tens of thousands of women who wanted to do the TARA Akshar Literacy Course because we do not have enough resources. If you would like to help, please contact us.

This is 32 year old Maina Devi, of Uttar Pradesh.  She learned to read and write last month with the TARA Akshar program.  She learnt in 30 days.  She learned so well that she and her classmates sent us a very nicely written thank-you note.  30 days prior to this letter, she could neither read NOR write.   Please scroll down to see the translation.
